rund um scharfenberg 2010 - 24./25.04.2010
last weekend, the time had finally come - the race season started with the first competition in berlin after a seemingly never-ending 2009/2010 winter.
preparations such as loading the trailer were already taken care of on friday, so that
the trip to berlin on saturday could be started individually.
thanks to eddi and ina, first on the road with the verbal support of telephone joker jana, the trailer and its valuable cargo safely reached its destination, at which the remaining sharks arrived as well until noon. after greeting friends and acquaintances and "interrogating" them about their individually completed training volumes, the boats were unloaded and preparations for the race started.
with 17-21 degrees, sunny clear-blue skies, everyone was anxious to get on the water. after some introductory words on race course and the conditions, the first padddlers were able to start at 13.20. 43 oc1, followed by 25 oc2 10 minutes later, a mix of men and women from all age groups took on the 16.16 km...
following the usual rather lengthy start phase, the field lead by the future winner kay soon split into several groups. after half a round, a group comprising kay, thomas and lars had taken the lead and - keeping the formation - fought all the way to the finish line in a race that matched race times of the previous year. after a furious catch-up race, sharks friend leo finished 4th and as the best of the unbeatables. another great fight was put up by Jana, finishing 5th among the women with a time that rivalled a number of oc2s.
sharks also started in all available oc2 categories with nora and feli looking forward to their first race together. although their participation was not sure until the last minute due to sickness, both tackled the course and finished 5th in the womens oc2s. ina and edgar harbrecht added another trophy to the success story of their years together by coming in second in the mixed category. sharks newcomers reiner mde and olaf lindstdt also finished second in the all male oc2 category... "we hadn't planned for anything major but are not disappointed either. the conditions were fantastic and the same for everyone. we simply had some bad luck and berlin now one water weed problem less... congratulations to ronny and stifti - we'll be back!"
the only sharks victory of the weekend was provided by the fathers of the sharks, the duo cuba (a legend of tomorrow) and sharky (gdi). with an unchallenged lead from the start, the two brought in a sensational first place in the above40 category.
interest in the relay race was relatively high with 4 teams of 3 athletes each starting on sunday morning. although quite tired and hardly rested (thanks to the great atmosphere within the berlin bunch), the sharks put in their share for a 2nd place.
congratulations and commendations for all winners and particpants as well as a grateful acknowledgement of th organisational team of the berlin kanu club borussia e.v. marion, mikel, andrea and torsten.
a thank you as well to our guests/fans who have supported us in their uniquely charming way... :-)
